‘Spectacular’ Northampton Carnival to bring colours and sounds of five continents to town
A feast of music, dancing and colour will sweep Northampton next month when thousands of spectators turn up to watch the town’s biggest annual summer event – the carnival.
Locals will line the streets in their droves to see a parade of floats and troupes take over the town, travelling from the Racecourse along Kettering Road, through the town centre and into Abington.
The carnival, which this year has a theme of ‘five continents, one carnival’ – representing the five Olympic rings – will then lead the fun back to the starting point along Wellingborough Road where the party continues.
At the Racecourse there will be stage performances including solo singers and dance acts – headlined by by reggae act the Mystic Crew – a funfair, and dozens of stalls selling food, crafts and clothing – all aiming to keep the fun going.
The multicultural event takes place on Saturday, June 11 from noon until 7.30pm, and promises to give locals ‘a true taste of the diverse cultures and lifestyles that are unique to Northampton’.
More details of the schedule will be released in the coming weeks, with the other attractions at the Racecourse including Caribbean food, cultural arts and crafts, jewellery, promotional stalls for charities, sweets and treats, and a full running bar.
Described as ‘an event for the entire family’ which continues to grow since its roots which date back to the 1960s, the event’s organisers say this year’s carnival will produce a ‘spectacular display’.
